GeoTracks Privacy
Last updated: October 2026
GeoTracks is a free daily music geography game. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your data.
What we store
- A random player ID. The first time you play, your browser creates a random code (not your name or email). It lets us keep your scores, streak and leaderboard place together.
- Your guesses and scores. Where you tapped for each question, the distance and the points, so we can score you fairly and build the daily leaderboard.
- A leaderboard name, if you choose one. It is shown publicly on the leaderboard. Please don't use your full real name if you'd rather stay private.
- Forms you send us. If you apply to be a Question Master or send a suggestion, we keep what you type (for example your name, email, social handle and message) so we can reply. If you join the GeoTracks Pro early-access list, we keep your email and the features you picked, and only use them to tell you about Pro.
- Daily reminders, if you turn them on. Your browser gives us a notification address, plus your time zone, chosen hour and language, so we can send one reminder a day. Turn it off any time in Menu → Your game → Daily reminder, or in your browser's settings.
- Device link codes, if you use "Play on another device". A copy of your on-device stats is held with a one-time code for up to 15 minutes, then deleted as soon as the code is used or expires.
- Simple usage counts. Visits, finished rounds and which share buttons are used, tied to your random player ID. No cookies and no outside trackers.
- Settings on your device. Your style, sound, music and language choices, your streak and your past results are saved in your own browser's storage. They stay on your device.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't show ads today. If we add ads later, we will update this page first, and ask for consent where the law requires it.
- We don't use your data to train AI models.
Who helps us run GeoTracks
The website is hosted by Netlify. Scores, leaderboard names and form messages are stored in a database run by Supabase (servers in the United States). Map pictures come from NASA GIBS, and fonts and code libraries load from Google Fonts and cdnjs (Cloudflare), which can see your IP address when your browser fetches them.
How long we keep it
Scores and leaderboard entries are kept while GeoTracks runs. Form messages are deleted once they are dealt with, or within 24 months. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's storage for this site to remove the data saved on your device. You will get a new player ID next time.
- Turn off daily reminders in Menu → Your game → Daily reminder.
- Email us at hello@geotracks.app with your leaderboard name to have your scores, name and messages deleted.
Children
GeoTracks is a general-audience game. It is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them through our forms.
Changes
If we change how we use data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
GeoTracks is made by Lindsay Christianson and the GeoTracks team.
